I knew this volume was out of date when I started reading information technology but I wasn't using it for intense studying. I read it quickly to get an overview of the web programming landscape. As such, the examples provided were expert and I learned enough to know that I don't know enough even so. This is a skillful volume if y'all're just starting out just it is out-dated. I've started on a more upwards-to-appointment book and will exist using that one to complete my introduction to web programming. Okay, yes, some of this is so very basic, why would anyone with whatsoever experience in web design or development even await at it? Well, this anyone has been learning catch-every bit-take hold of-tin can for as long as there has been a World Wide Spider web, using all kinds of software, content direction systems, books, gratis grooming online, and the like. Okay, yes, some of this is and so very basic, why would anyone with any feel in spider web design or development even wait at information technology? Well, this anyone has been learning catch-equally-catch-can for as long as there has been a World wide web, using all kinds of software, content management systems, books, costless grooming online, and the like. And I have been increasingly confused every bit heck considering my knowledge has been on a need-to-know footing and my foundation is full of holes and mighty rickety.

I'yard one of those people who tends to read books backwards, dipping into whatsoever looks pertinent to what I'm doing and skipping over annihilation I think I already know. I am impatient with the course-similar stye of books similar this i, too; I want to get right to the meat. But by forcing myself to work through this form, Chapter 1 to the end, I'm picking up important $.25 of data that I need to fully sympathize what I am doing. Meloni has provided a framework to help organize the many disparate bits of information i encounters when trying to work through the web. She makes information technology less likely that the reader will skip over words like "DOM" or "AJAX," equally I take done, thinking they are some geeky programming jargon not applicable to my simple little web project.

The book is merely dirt-basic in the commencement. Every bit you progress through the volume, it gets into more intermediate-level fabric, always building on what'due south come earlier. A lot of that intermediate-level material (especially the Javascript portions--about half the book) are new (and therefore advanced) to me. But I find information technology very strange, as some others have, that there are no useful syntax lists and the similar in an appendix. The clarification of this book on Amazon specifically refers the reader to an appendix, so I have to wonder if this cloth wasn't left out past mistake.

Because of the missing reference material (which one should non have to go online to refer to while working through a chapter), I'grand giving this three.5 stars, elevated to a iv because it's certainly ameliorate than a 3. I do recollect this book is a good pick for anyone who would benefit from the guiding structure of a sequentially organized course such equally y'all would run across in a formal classroom. In fact, I can meet this All-in-One volume used every bit a textbook in some settings.

Will this exist the just book you will demand? Depending on what you lot want to exercise, probably not. But at least after completing it you can better evaluate what else you need or which direction you want to have in your skills acquisition. It is a very good value for a form you can take at your ain speed, and in that location are plenty of other books and free online materials to supplement your training when you are fix.
